Kandis Resource Centre was set up in 2000 when the late Nik Rashiddin Nik Hussein, Norhaiza Noordin, KC and David Lok and Waveney Jenkins with the help of a great band of volunteers and committed professionals began the work of preparing the book - Spirit of Wood, and the exhibition of woodcarvings - both antique and newly created which had been collected and carved by Nik Din and Norhaiza.
- In 2000 an initial small exhibition was opened in the premises of the Badan Warisan Malaysia (Heritage of Malaysia Trust) in Kuala Lumpur.
- In 2003 the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore assisted us to create a travelling exhibition that opened in Singapore. The book had been completed the year before, but sadly it was just after the death of the great carver, Nik Rashiddin Nik Hussein. It was published in time for the Singapore exhibiton and was officially launched by HRH the Sultan of Selangor at the Badan Warisan headquarters later that month.
- In January 2004 the exhibition moved to the Brunei Gallery in London, before returning to Muzium Negara in Kuala Lumpur. It ended its travels at the Museum Negeri in Kuala Trengganu
- In 2006 the artefacts returned to Kampong Kandis where they were temporarily housed partly in two beautiful old Malay houses in the compound of Nik Rashiddin's widow and family. Norhaiza Noordin's part of the collection returned to his home in Kampong Raja Besut - where he also has created an exhibition hall and home from a collection of superb old Terengganu wooden houses and where his workshop is situated.
- This year a new building has been completed, with the help of both the Malaysian Ministry of Culture, Arts, & Heritage and the Kelantan Department of Culture. It now houses the more delicate and precious of the artifacts in a first floor gallery. There is also a small library which will shortly house Nik Rashiddin's collection of books, articles, and his drawings. Below lies a large teaching hall and meeting room. Puan Rosnawati Othman is now holding courses here of varying lengths and content for students, researchers, visitors and schools.
- A second phase will comprise completing the eating hall, kitchens and stores, with a courtyard and pintu gerbang.
